SCHERTZ PUBLIC LffiRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES
The LAB met in regular session on January 8, 1996 with the following members present:

The minutes of the December meeting were presented. A motion was made by Julie and
seconded by Pattie to accept the minutes. The motion carried.
The Treasurer's Report was given for November and December. Mary McAllister
moved to accept the report and was seconded by Dallin. The motion carried.
The Librarian's Report was presented:
Problems with the automation system have yet to be resolved. Gail plans to check
on the situation on Jan. 9, 1996. Ifproblems still exist, the State Libnuy Board could be
called on for help.
Gail reported that the three libraries in Guadalupe County agreed to apply for a
grant that would enable them to join the Internet. She will know of approval by mid-
January. The library would need to pay 30% matching funds until September. Starting
in October, the funds would be included in the new city budget.
The Volunteer Brunch at the Library originally planned for Dec. 28, 1995 will be
rescheduled for another time.
Gail voiced concern that a proctoring policy needs to be made because of the time
involved when tests are given.
Nine new books are available from The Library of America. The matching price
to be paid by the library is $150.00. Mary moved that the LAB pay this amount. Pattie
seconded. The motion carried.
Committee Reports:
There were no committee reports.
Old Business:
There was no old business.
New Business:
The Policy committee will meet on Feb. 5, 1996 to discuss the non-resident fee
and video check out policy.
The Book Store Committee will meet on Feb. 5, 1996.
The Hospitality Committee will provide snacks for the Feb. meeting.

The next meeting of the LAB will be held Monday, February 5, 1996. After an
abbreviated business meeting, committees will meet. Committees not meeting will weed
out books in the Book Store. Julie made the motion to adjourn and Barbara Quates
seconded. The motion carried.
