LAB 10-07-1996 . SCHERTZ PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD ( LAB) MINUTES The LAB met in regular session on October 7,1996 with the following members present: Ruth Tienor Mary McAllister Julie Parr Barbara Quates Barbara Ricks Gail Douglas Pattie Lovelady John Grosskopf Juan Thorn Charles McDonald The minutes for August were presented and approved after corrections were made. The motion to approve the minutes was made by Julie and seconded by Pattie. No Treasurer's report was presented because no information was available from the city. . Librarian's Report -The new budget was approved with an increase of $19,646, much of which will go toward salaries, Gina has gone from 30 to 40 hours, making a total of four full time employees. -Money left over from maintenance will go toward the purchase of a security system. The cost will be $25 a month, with $279 installation fee. -105,664 materials have been checked out this year, Last year's total was 97,000, -September fines totaled $600. -$10 in postage fees was collected during September to cover the cost for mailing reservation postcards. (A 25c fee is required to reserve a book). -Policies for using the new automation system will have to be made, - The Eastern Star donation is still planned to be used for a new dictionary stand, Committee Reports: Building and Property: -Bond issue to improve fire station is in the planning stages. -Perry's building will not be available for the library, -Building committee should start prioritizing needs of present building, in case funds will have to be raised. Charles McDonald stated that businesses such as Wal-Mart support projects for communities, and may be willing to help with library improvements. Building and Finance Committees need to meet at some time to work on projects to improve the library, Policy Committee needs to meet to work on new policy ideas. They will try to finish by the end of the year to be approved by City Council. Bookstore: Some of the paperback books need to be disposed of. Suggestions were made for disposal, such as the recycling bins at local schools and to hospitals, etc. . No Old Business at this time.
