SCHERTZ PUBLIC LffiRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES
The LAB met on January 5, 2004 with the following members present:

Minutes: Minutes for the December 2003 meeting were presented. Ruth moved to
accept the minutes and Julie seconded. The motion passed.
Treasurer's Report: No report was available. Julie stated that $214.50 in bookstore
sales was deposited in December as well as a $50.00 donation from Autumn Winds
(Sterling Care).
Librarian's Report:
. Melissa reported that there were 15,834 check-outs in December 2003, an 11.7 %
increase over Dec. 2002.
. The circulation desk counter tops were ordered at the beginning of December and
should be in around February 1.
. The float entry in the holiday parade turned out well and was an enjoyable event.
. Gail reported that lighting for the parking lot needs to get started soon. She had
brochures of different lighting styles for review by the board. A decision will be
made soon.
. Holly Smith started on Dec. 29 as the new Children's Librarian. She will work
Tuesday through Saturday, and Melissa Monday through Friday.
. Gail is making plans for Volunteer Appreciation Week in April.

New Business: None
Old Business: Volunteers are still needed to work in the bookstore. Melissa will review
the schedule for available time slots for those who may be able to volunteer.
Ruth moved to adjourn the meeting. Julie seconded. The motion carried.
The next meeting will be on Monday, February 2, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. in the meeting room
at the Community Center.
