SCHERTZ PUBLIC LffiRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES
The LAB met on February 2, 2004 with the following members present:

Minutes: Minutes for the January 2004 meeting were presented. Ruth moved to accept
the minutes and Jennifer seconded. The motion carried.
Treasurer's Report: Julie presented corrected reports for June 2003-December 2003.
All problems were due to the sales tax entries because they are broken down into three
components. The corrected cash balance at the end of December was $8,162.74. The
investment balance was $11,429.99. Ruth moved to accept the treasurer's reports and
Margaret seconded. The motion carried.
Librarianfi).Report:
· Melissa reported that the furniture has not come in yet. A call will be made if it
hasn't arrived within the next two weeks.
· The library was treated for termites on Saturday, Jan. 31. Hopefully the problem
has been taken care of.
· There was a 4% increase in circulation this January over last year.
· Holly Smith is doing very well as Children's Librarian.
· Preliminary plans are being made for the Summer Reading Program. Melissa will
also look into having evening movies again this year.
· Melissa reported that one 10-hour clerk left. That time has been spread out
between two other employees. Things are working out well at this time.
· Gail met with the landscape designer and is planning for outside lighting. She is
also working with the Public Works Dept. on this project.
· Gail also reported that the bond issue has been postponed. The city is taking a
break to see how everything stands.
· The city has purchased the old Good Shepherd building and is making plans to
renovate it for city use.
· The Highway 78 beautification project is still in the works.

The next meeting will be on Monday, March 1, 2004, at 7:00 p.m. in the meeting room at
the Community Center.
