SCHERTZ PUBLIC LffiRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES
The LAB met on September 13, 2004 with the following members present:

Minutes: Minutes for the August 2004 meeting were presented. Ruth moved to accept
the minutes. Mary seconded. The motion carried.
Treasurer's Report: No report was available for August. Julie presented the July report.
The ending balance was $7,964.41. The investment account balance was $11,501.26.
Mary moved to accept the report. Margaret seconded. The motion carried.

Librarians' Report:
· Melissa reported the August circulation stats were 21,407 which was a 12%
increase over last year.. Patron stats went down due to the weeding out of those
who haven't used their cards in the last three years.
· Nicki Stohr has been hired as the new Children's Librarian starting October 1.
· Staff members will sign up w.for an on-line workshop to deal with difficult
patrons.
· Gail and Melissa went to Uvalde and bought used furniture (metal shelving) to
put in the genealogy room which will be cleaned out and used as new juvenile and
study areas. Genealogy will be moved to another location in the library.
· Bookstore renovations may not take place until the next fiscal year. It is easier to
leave it as is for now. The bookstore is open almost every day and doing well.
Also, donations to the bookstore remain steady.
· The stor~~e shed will be cleaned out during the first week in October. Unused
items canJ~oved there thus allowing for more space in the library.
· Melissa is still looking into getting a good price to refit the circulation desk. She
may wait until the next fiscal year. Gail suggested she spend the money
necessary ($1,100) to get the desk done in order to use the new scanner. Mr.
Douglas will check with a carpenter he knows for a possible better price.
· Jennifer Wallace has resigned from the LAB, but hopes to return in the future
after her children are older.
· Simone Bailey has asked for a couple of months off from the LAB.
· Gail reported that work is scheduled in October to add bike racks at the library.
Holes for drainage in the parking area will also be added. Lights for the parking
lot have been budgeted for the next fiscal year.
· Gail reminded everyone of the Party in the Park scheduled for Sept. 18 to benefit
The ALS Foundation.
Ruth made the motion to adjourn the meeting. Julie seconded. The motion carried.
