SCHERTZ PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD '(LAB) M;INUTES
The LAB met on 7 January 2003 with the following members present:
Simone Bailey Margaret Riley Julie Parr Jennifer Wallace
Gail Douglas Mary McAlister Barbara Ricks Regina Agee Lisa ConnIly
Minutes: Minutes were presented. Margaret moved to approve the minutes, and Barbara
seconded. Minutes were approved.
Treasurer's Report: Julie reported that the Bookstore deposits for December were $164.87. No
other Treasurer's report was available due to city changes in their system. As soon as
information is caught up, she will present a complete report.
.
Librarian's Report:
Stats for December were up, a 51 % increase as compared to December 2001.
Gail reported that Melissa sent out letter to the parents of the child on the book that was
challenged. Letter stated that book would remain on the shelf in its present location.
Currently the bookstore is looking for volunteers to run the bookstore. Many customers
have expressed anger to locked doors, but at this time library workers are too
overwhelmed at front desk to take on both responsibilities. Melissa has taken over the
bookstore and is doing a great job. Mary questions whether the bookstore policy needs to
be reviewed, but Gail feels like that it is fine as of now. We may want to review it at a
later date.
Library as a whole is functioning well. There are no positions available at this time and
Sandy is supervising hours.
Seguin and Schertz libraries to possibly sponsor a map.
Many thanks to Simone who did a great job getting a float together for the Christmas
parade at the last minute.
Committee Reports: Hospitality committee will need to begin meeting in order to plan the
libraries 25th anniversary in June. Discussion about having a kick-off open house at the beginning
of June was brought up, with a reception to follow in the Genealogy room. More will be
discussed at a later date.
New Business:
Julie mentioned having the LAB meeting times to be put into the Schertz Tales.
Gail reminded LAB of meetings on bond issue in February. Board to be at both
meetings.
Old Business:
Margaret and Melissa attended the Alamo Area Library Association meeting. They went
over the long-term goals for budget year 2004. There was also discussion in small groups
featuring areas of concern.
Report from Council Representative:
LAB welcomes new council representative, Regina Agee. Mrs. Agee replaces the wild
and sometimes crazy, Norma Head.
Regina reminds us of the election on 1February, 2003. Early voting will be 15-28
January.
.
Margaret moved to adjourn the meeting. Julie seconded. Motion carried. The next meeting
will be Monday, February 3 at 7:00 p.m.
