SCHERTZ PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES
The LAB met on 4 August 2003 with the following members present:

Minutes: Minutes were presented and Ruth motioned to accept minutes. Julie seconded.
Treasurer's Report: No report from city hall.
Librarian's Report:
Introduction of Cindy Wait as newest board member.
DSL service has been cancelled as contract had expired.
Summer reading program was huge success-Thanks to Melissa for doing a great job. 609
children participated last summer and 800 participated this summer.
July stats were 24897 this year as compared with 20970 last July.
All three part-time workers were hired-One has already quit.
This Saturday the movie at the plays cape will be Treasure Planet. It will begin at dusk.
Friends of the play scape met on July 22. Meeting was not well attended, but some work
was done. The next meeting will be October 4 at 8:00 am to seal the play scape.
Monies given for the Lone Star Grant will be used to purchase new magazine rack. Plans
for this year's money include a new circulation desk (Approx $3500.00). Grant will not
cover the cost of desk, so Gail asked if LAB would consider covering the difference. The
desk must comply with the ADA.

Old Business: Fourth of July float was great! Next year no animals!
Report from Council Representative:
Light to be put in at Live Oak intersection.
Elbel road will be closed in Sept ember for about 3 months.
FM 78 speed limit is going to 45mph
Ruth moved to adjourn the meeting. Mary seconded. Motion carried. The next meeting will
be Monday, September 8 at 7:00 p.m.
