SCHERTZ PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES
The LAB met on ~ 6, 2002 with the following members present:

Minutes: Minutes were presented. Corrections were made as follows: a Treasurer's report
was presented and DVDs are kept behind the counter. Jennifer moved to approve the
corrected minutes, and Julie seconded. Motion passed.
Treasurer's Report: Julie presented the Treasurer's report. The checks are still missing
and on one particular day nothing was deposited.

Librarian's Report:
· April was volunteer month. Gail presented a notepad, pen, and bookmark to each of the
board members.
· Things have settled down at the playscape.
· March stats were up 50% and April stats were up 62%.
. The Texas State Librarian, Peggy Rudd, visited the library on Friday, April 5th.
. Gail attended a meeting in Jourdanton and received an award for the library's Uncle Sam
float project.
· The Summer Reading Program begins June 12th. The theme is "Read Across Texas".
Toddlers through 8th grade children will be eligible to participate in the program.
Wednesday and Thursday mornings will be story time for the 2.5 year olds. The
afternoons will be for school age children.
. The new shelving is in. Additional furniture is needed.
. Money from the TIP Grant is here and the computers will be up soon. The furniture for
the computers is purchased with Lone Star Library monies.
. The city of Schertz and the SCUC ISD received a $500,000 grant. The library will get
some computers as part of this grant.
Committee Reports: none
New Business: Ruth moved to allocate $1000 for the purchase of the needed furniture.
Mary seconded. Motion passed.
Old Business: No applications for the Library Advisory Board vacancy have been returned.
Report from Council Representative: Viola Kramer's property has been considered for a
Community Center and Park. The new park would include tennis courts and a swimming
pool. The old Community Center would probably be used for office space. Verizon is
breaking ground in the Industrial Park to build a switching station.

The next meeting will be June 10th at 7:00 p.m.
