SCHERTZ PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES
The LAB met on September 9, 2002 with the following members present:

Citizens present: Lisa Connally
Ruth Tienor conducted the meeting.
Minutes: Minutes were presented. Julie moved to approve the minutes, and Margaret
seconded. 1v1inutes were approved.
Treasurer's Report: Julie presented the Treasurer's report. Two items have been posted to
the correct accounts; however, there are 8till2 checks missing. There is also a $0.26 charge to
the Library account but we will not pursue this issue. Julie will begin taking donations and
bookstore moneys down to City Hall. Margaret moved to accept the treasurer's report, and
Mary seconded. Motion carried.

Librarian's Report:
· The wall has been taken down in the Children's section so the area can be expanded.
· Gail is interviewing for a new clerk (a 20 hour position).
· Gail is waiting for the formal approval from City Council for a second 20 hour position.
. Sundays are becoming busier.
· There have been no leads on the vandalism to the libralY and Knigllts of Columbus Hall.
· Melissa will go to the ALALS (Alamo Area Library System) meeting on September 20th.
Margaret is the alternate Lay Representative.
Committee Reports: none
New Business: Julie moved to contribute $200 to the reward fund for information on those
who did the vandalism, and thi'l will be payable upon prosecution of the perpetrator. Jennifer
seconded. Motion earned.
Jennifer moved to give Gail $200 to buy best sellers at SAM'S, etc. Julie seconded. Motion
passed.
Old Business: none
Report from Council Representative: The City FOll11n ~ approximately 300 citizens
attend. About 75% of the people there said that they would support a tax increase for public
services. This year's budget is a bare minimum budget. City employees will get a pay
increase. Approximately 40 people have applied for the City Manager position. A new City
:rvlanager should be named about mid to end of October. The Horizon ribbon cutting
ceremony will be soon. On Wednesday a.m. September 11, there will be a brief ceremony in
front of City Hall. The highway 78 Beautification Plan is being revisited.

The next meeting will be October 7th at 7 :00 p.m.
