SCHERTZ PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES
The LAB met on December 2, 2002 with the following members present:

Minutes: "Minutes were presented. Julie moved to approve the minutes, and Ruth seconded.
~tfinutes were approved.
Treasurer's Report: Julie reported that the Bookstore deposits for October were $503.05
and in November were $155.50. No other Treasurer's report was available at this time.
Libral;all's Report:
· lVlelissa brought forth a patron's challenge on "It's Perfectly Normal". Melissa stated that
this book is on the ALA's most challenged list and that most libralies keep it in the
Y outh/Juvenile Area. She presented reviews, both pro and con, from various sources.
After discussion, it was the unanimous decision by the LAB to keep the book in its present
location. Melissa will contact the patron with the LAB's decision.
. Stats were down recently but overall stats are still up.
· The City Manager has approved in the City Budget an expenditure for shelving. The
money will be available in March.
· The computer sales money goes into a grant money fund. It does not go into the general
tit fund and therefore enables Gail to have access to the money.
Nominating Committee: The following slate of officers was presented: Chainnan - Simone
Bailey; Vice-Chainnan - Barbara Ricks; Secretary - Jennifer Wallace; and Treasurer - Julie
Parr. Ruth moved to accept the slate, and Mary seconded. Motion passed.
New Business: none
Old Business:
· A float for the Christmas Parade was again di~cussed. Due to scheduling conflicts, the
LAB will not have a float in the parade.
· Gail suggested that the LAB participate in the state Sponsor a Map program and
become a sponsor for the Guadalupe County map in memory of Margaret Lamm.
Report from Council Representative: Gail reported that the City is preparing for a Bond
Election. In Febmary on Thursday evenings assistance will be needed with focus groups for
the bond. The election will be in August.
Ruth moved to adjourn the meeting. Julie seconded. Motion earned.
The next meeting will be January 6th at 7:00 p.m.
