SCHERTZ PUBLIC LffiRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES
The LAB met on January 8, 2001 with the following members present:

Minutes: Minutes from the December 4, 2000 meeting were not ~vJli~RJp.
Treasurer's Report: The carpet has been paid. Julie stated that $ ~ will be
"backed out" of the account when the audit is over. Margaret made the motion to accept
the report given. Ruth seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Librarian's Report:
· Gail reported that everything is now changed to the new systems software. The old
software is being phased out.
· Two temporary employees will be hired.
· Internet use is increasing. Circulation is steady.
· Gail has been working on collection development. As per policy, fiction and
paperback romance has been weeded.
· Gail has been buying best sellers and books that have been requested.
· More bookstore volunteers are needed so as to allow access to the bookstore during
regular library hours.
· Gail and Norma plan to go to Austin the first week in February to attend the Library
Legislative Day.
New Business: Juan Thome has notified Gail that he is resigning from the LAB as he is
moving out of the area. Rhonda Sherman will be contacted to see if she would be
available to serve on the LAB.
Council Representative, Norma Head, sent a report. The new city manager will be on
staff soon. An agreement to obtain water from the Carriso- Wilcox aquifer has been
worked out. A bid of $59,000 for a new roof and gutters for the library has been
submitted. A new city garbage route has been started.
The motion to adjourn was made by Ruth and seconded by Julie. The next meeting will
be on Monday, February 5, at 7:00 p.m.
