SCHERTZ PUBLIC LmRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES
The LAB met on February 5, 2001 with the following members present:
Barbara Ricks Margaret Riley Pia Jarman Julie Parr
Mary McAllister Norma Head Gail Douglas
Minutes: January minutes were corrected. Moneys to be backed out of the account should
read $10,606 instead of $ 10,000. Margaret moved to accept the minutes as corrected. Julie
seconded. Motion carried.
Treasurer's Report: Interest on the Investment Account and the Treasurer's Report is
through January. Julie has not heard when the $10,606 will be deducted from the investment
account. Mary moved to accept the report. Margaret seconded. Motion carried.
Librarian's Report:
· Stats are up approximately 1200 from January 2000. Internet users have almost doubled
as the number of computers has increased.
· The Gates computers will be filtered. At the moment our computers are not filtered.
· February 7th is Legislative Day in Austin. Gail and Norma will be attending. They will
join with others from TLA to lobby for library issues.
· Sara Lee, the Children's Clerk, has resigned. Carmelita is working extra hours to help
fill this vacancy.
· Susan VanDerHayden will be conducting story hour for a few weeks. Benita will take
over the story hour in the near future.
New Business: A listing of LAB committees and members will be prepared.
Norma Head, City Council Representative, spoke about community parks. She has a video
showing how a community park can build with citizen involvement. There will be increases
in water bills to pay for pipelines and pumping stations for our new water supply. Dewey
Cashwell, city manager, will be here soon. Amy Madison is the new City of Schertz Public
Information Officer.
Old Business: Rhonda Sherman is not available serve on the LAB at this time. Mike
Graves' name was submitted and he will be contacted.
The motion to adjourn was made by Margaret and seconded by Pia. The next meeting will
be on Monday, March 5, at 7:00 p.m.
