SCHERTZ PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES
The LA.B met on October I, 2001 \vith the following members present:

Minutes: Ivfinutes were presented. Margaret moved to approve the minutes, and Julie
seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Treasurer's Report: Julie presented the Treasurer's report. Mary moved to approve the
reports and Ruth seconded. Motion carried.
Librarian's Report:
. The storage shed has been completed.
· On Friday, December 7th, the city of Schertz will have a night Christmas parade. Uncle
Sam which was on the library's 4th of July float will be used in this upcoming event.
· The library budget was approved by City Council. Beginning i.n January, the library will be
open 7 days a week. The hours will be Mon. through Thursday 10-8, Friday 10-6, and
Saturday and Sunday 12-6. Two part-time positions have been changed to full-time
positions. Two additional part-time positions are approved.
· The TIF Grant has been approved in the amount of $33,000. This is to be used for
computers. The magazine and juvenile areas "rill be moved so that all computers can be
moved closer to the front desk.
. Stats are up more than 2200 over last year.
· Fines: If more than $50 of materials is overdue, a notice goes to the city and it is handled
through the courts. When materials are 2 weeks overdue, a postcard is sent, and then at 4
weeks a letter is sent reminding the patron to return the materials or it will be handled
through the court. In the past there have been amnesty days to encourage people to return
the materials. Records may be blocked if a patron has overdue items. A lost book must be
paid by a replacement fee plus a one dollar service charge.
. Computer fIlters will be in place soon.
. Gail ""ill be attending TIF (computer) training October 10-12.
Committee Reports: Policy committee asked that board members look over policy to see if
any changes need to be made.
New Business:
· library User Conduct policy was reviewed. The consensus was that it is not necessary to
add "can search bags, book bags, or purses". The policy stands as is.

Report from Council Representative:
. Schertz is annexed the North Cliff housing area.
. Apartments will be built near the railroad tracks on 3009.
· Papa Johns is planning to build near 3009 and Elbel Road.
I\Ifargaret moved to adjourn the meeting. Ruth seconded. Motion carried.
The next meeting will be November 5th at 7:00 p.m.
