SCHERTZ PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES
The LAB met on February 7,2000 with the following members present:
Margaret Riley Pattie Lovelady Julie Parr Mary McAllister
Norma Head Barbara Ricks Juan Thorn Gail Douglas
Ruth Tienor
Minutes: The minutes for the January meeting were presented. Pattie made the motion
to accept the minutes. Mary seconded the motion. The motion carried.
Treasurer's Report: No report was available due to continued problems with the
computer system at city hall. Julie did report that the January deposit for the bookstore
was $362.91.
.
Librarian's Report:
-The stats are down again, and Gail reported that if the situation continues, some
marketing techniques might have to be used. Paperback circulation is down also.
Relocation of the children's area might be a reason for lower statistics.
-New metal shelves have been installed in the genealogy room which were much less
costly than wooden shelves.
-Tony Vander Heyden is still working on getting the computer system to run smoothly.
-Gail should find out by March whether or not the library will get the $100,000 grant.
Several new computers will be purchased in April if the grant is approved, however,
furniture items will be purchased with budget money.
-The library was written up for not having ADA handicap parking. Spaces will have to
be marked within 90 days. Gail will have the spaces painted even though the whole
parking lot will eventually be resurfaced.
-The tree in front of the library needs to be cut down also.
-Gail would like a workday scheduled to plant trees in the back of the library to cover the
electrical panels. She will talk to Schulz Nursery about the trees, preferably Mountain
Laurels. Money might be available from a tree fund with the city. A decision will be
made at the next meeting.
-Guidelines were set up to avoid problems with personnel when sending flowers, cards
etc.
-Gail and Sandy have split up times so that a supervisor will be on hand to help with
patron questions and problems. This availability is an effort to improve statistics as well
as being a good public relations move.
Committee Reports:
A new list of committee assignments will be handed out at the next LAB meeting.
Old Business:
Gail was unable to speak to Mr. Sweatt about whether or not the old plaque should be
hung in the entry as well as getting a new one.
.
The motion to adjourn was made by Julie and seconded by Norma. The next LAB
meeting will be on Monday, March 6, 2000 at 7:00 p.m.
