SCHERTZ PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES
The LAB met on August 7, 2000 with the following members present:
Margaret Riley Pattie Lovelady Julie Parr Ruth Tienor Gail Douglas
Mary McAllister Barbara Ricks Juan Thorn Norma Head
Minutes: The minutes for the May meeting were presented. No minutes were
presented for June due to the lack of a quorum, or for July due to the July 4th holiday.
Mary made the motion to accept the May minutes. Ruth seconded the motion. The
motion passed.
Treasurer's report: Reports for March, April, May, June, and July were presented.
Julie is not sure of the correct cash account amounts given, as well as the correct
investment account amount because of discrepancies with the comptroller's reports.
The problem stems from the $13,058.52 shown in the investment account. The city
comptroller has asked an auditor to look into the matter, but they have not heard from
him yet. Julie is unable to give an accurate report until the problem is solved. She did
report that the total book sales for May were $388.82 and $459.90 for July, the highest
amount to date. Ruth made the motion to accept the treasurer's report as presented.
Pattie seconded the motion. The motion carried.
.
Librarian's Report:
- Gail asked that a motion be made to transfer $15,702.00 for carpeting as per Mr.
Jain's request. Ruth made the motion to transfer these funds. Mary seconded the
motion, which was accepted.
- The library, as well as the city have had changes in personnel which have caused
things to be hectic. Steve Simonson is the interim city manager until a new manager
is chosen. Violet Jasper has resigned as Children's Librarian to accept a teaching
job. Gail has contracted with a new volunteer to do story time. until the new budget
year begins. She will then work on finding a new Children's Librarian.
Gail will need to attend training sessions before the $18,000 from the Gates
Foundation can be spent. She then plans to purchase a new server and four
computers. .
_ Gail is having problems with Brodart concerning the database. $1,600 will need to
be spent to fix the problem.
- The library is continuing to do well and the stats are continuing to rise.
Donated savings bond war posters were auctioned on E-bay and sold. Several
hundred dollars were added to the bookstore money.
Committee Reports: None
Old Business: It was suggested and agreed upon that a gift certificate to a restaurant
be given to Mark for his work on the July 4th Parade.
The motion to adjourn was made by Ruth and seconded by Julie. The next LAB
meeting will be on Monday, September 11, 2000 at 7P.M. due to the Labor Day holiday.
