SCHERTZ PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES
The LAB met on September 11, 2000 with the following members present:
Margaret Riley Mary McAllister Barbara Ricks Gail Douglas
Ruth Tienor Julie Parr Juan Thorn Norma Head
.
Minutes: The minutes for the August meeting were presented. Mary made the motion
to accept the minutes. Ruth seconded the motion. The motion passed.
Treasurer's report: Julie stated that all reports after March are to be disregarded. She
and Mr. Jain will go over statements and try to explain the $13,058.52 transferred from
the general fund. The income amounts on the statements have been correct, but the
cash totals and investment accounts are not correct. Hopefully everything will be
straightened out by the October LAB meeting. August bookstore deposits totaled
$435.60. Ruth made the motion to accept the report given. Mary seconded the motion.
The motion carried.
Librarian's Report:
Gail reported that Sarah Lee has been contracted to do children's story time once a
week. Since this is a popular program, Sarah may be asked to do story time twice a
week.
- Gail attended three computer classes for Microsoft Networking. The $1,300 to take
the course was paid for by the state, and Gail could be certified if she takes the
required test.
New DSL monitors have been installed and have been constantly in use. There
have been a few problems, such as the fax machine not working, but things are
going well.
- Gail will attend a workshop for the Gates grant on October 5. She will wait until after
October 1 to buy furniture because the grant money cannot be used. Tony will help
with the setup of the new computers when they arrive.
Gail will advertise for a children's librarian after January 1,2001.
The storeroom needs to be cleaned out to make room for all unused computer
equipment. This will make inventory easier.
Norma and Gail asked the LAB for $117.00 to buy wallpaper border and paint to
redecorate the children's area. This redecoration should be completed by
Christmas. The LAB approved the expense.
- Gail decided on a ~ift certificate from The Arroyo Restaurant to give to Mark for his
work on the July 4t float.
- The stats continue to rise and there are continued donations to the bookstore.
Gail has not yet received money to deposit from the sale of posters on eBay.
- Gail is checking on whether or not the $1600 for Brodart can be taken from grant
money.
Gail attended a budget workshop and expects the budget of approximately $250,000
to be approved. This is about $6,000 more than last year's budget. She did not
request for more help on this budget, but may do so next year.
.
The motion to adjourn was made by Ruth and seconded by Julie. The next LAB
meeting will be on Monday, October 2,2000 at 7P.M.
