SCHERTZ PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES
The LAB met on December 4, 2000 with the following members present:

Minutes: No minutes were available for November because no meeting was held due to
the lack of a quorum.
Treasurer' Report: Reports for March through October 2000 were presented. These
reports are more accurate than those presented previously. None of the reports,
however, shows the carpet has been paid for. Also, no information was available on the
interest on the investment account. As of the end of October, the cash account balance
was $2,2943.77. The investment account balance was $1,2603.66 at the end of
August. Ruth made the motion to accept the reports, with a second by Pia. The motion
carried.
Librarian's Report:
Gail reported that a check for $325.00 was received for the sale of twelve posters on
e-bay.
- The Schertz Business Association made a $250.00 donation. This money may be
used for T-shirts for the summer reading club.
Gail and Norma are making progress in the children's area, and the redecorating
should be completed soon.
Gail is hoping to hire Sara Lee as temporary children's clerk and to also hire another
temporary circulation desk clerk. Monitors are also needed for the children's area.
- The November stats were up from last year.
- In November, Gail attended conferences in both Karnes City and Aus~t'n. he
learned of successful programs for cities the size of Schertz. Also, the~~M ~
workshops available for people interested in city boards, etc. ~als viewe'dt
videos on city parks, which may be helpful in the city's efforts to improve
landscaping.
Gail will speak to Simone Bailey about filling the LAB vacancy left by Pattie
Lovelady.
Story Time Productions will present a program on Dec. 20. Gail asked for $200.00
from the board to pay for this event. The LAB approved the expense.
Committee Reports:
Nominating Committee: The committee reported that all board members except
Pattie are returning. The slate of officers for 2001 is as follows:

Secretary Mary McAllister Treasurer Julie Parr
Council Representative: Norma reported that the selection for a new city manager
would be made Dec. 15 or 16. Also, a new contract has been made with Waste
management.

The motion to adjourn was made by Ruth and seconded by Julie. The next LAB
meeting will be January 8,2001.
