Librarian's Report:
-Gail met with the architect on Feb. 2,and mentioned concerns about the plans. Glass
doors may be put on the back of the building since the children's area will eventually be
thE?re. Also, Gail would like two separate slots installed, one for videos and the other for
books. The slots would be for night drops, and wHl be able to be locked during the day.
-With the county's help, the amounts for the roof and carpeting have been added to the
bid. The LAB will move books when the time comes to lay the carpet, so labor costs for
this have not been added to the bid.
-The roof of the library will be green, so consideration of carpet color should be kept in
mind.
- The council did not like the idea of moving the shoe shop because of its condition. Hal
Baldwin suggested the old library building, but the listed price is $65,000. The realtor
will talk to the owners about a possible reduction in price.
-Gail reported that the building renovations should begin this spring.
- Three more computers will need to be replaced by the end of the year because one is
not Y2K, and the other two at the circulation desk are not Windows. Grant money
cannot be used for this purchase.
-A letter was submitted for the 21 st Century Learning Centers. If it is approved, it will be
a lot of work, but beneficial.
-Earl Hartzog is considering running for city council, so a spot on the board is still open.
- The Annual Report has been completed and is due April 30. Circulation was up over
last year with a number of 120,000 for this year.
Committee Reports: A copy of the new policy was given to each member. \^!e wi!! wait
until Mary is present to dis~uss changes and additions.
New Business: Council liaison, Pia Jarman, reported that the Planning and Zoning
Commission is trying to make policy to keep trees in developmental areas.
The motion to adjourn was made by Ruth and seconded by Julie. The next LAB
meeting will be on April 5, 1999 at 7:00 p. m.
