.
Treasurer's Report: No written report was available, but Julie gave the following
information: April bookstore sales=$21 0.45; Autumn Winds Memorial donation=$75.00;
AARP donation=$50.00.
Librarian's Report:
-Gail introduced and welcomed our new board member, Jake Valadez.
-The 4th of July Parade theme is "Stars and Stripes Forever." The library may have a
booth at the pavilion.
-Gail attended the TLA Conference in Dallas. She attended workshops pertaining to
basic things needed in the library such as weeding of old books, etc. She attended an
Intellectual Freedom Session, a workshop on signage, listened to several authors, and
met many nice people. Overall, it was a good meeting
-A bid by Del Greco Construction Co. for $103,915.00 was accepted by the city for the
library renovations. This bid does not include the cost for a new roof, which would be
about $63,345.
-Gail suggested that letters should be sent to various foundations for grants. These
funds could be used toward a new roof.
-Mr. Sweatt diseussed with the eouneii the possibility of using the bid fire statiOn as a
temporary bookstore. The cost of renovations for the bookstore in that location would
be approximately $3,000. Gail will also look into using the old G.V.E.C. building.
-A professional moving company is wining to pack and move everything out of the
library for $3,848.00 in order to have new carpet laid. The advantage of using a moving
company is that the library would not have to be closed for a week. The only place that
this amount could come from is the book budget. If the moving cost depletes the
budget, then the board may have to hold some fundraisers. The board agreed that the
money should be used.
-ProQuest should be up and running by the next board meeting. There will be one
password that will be given when a patron gets a card. The service will allow patrons
access from home, vvhich will be beneficial when the library' is closed.
Committee Reports: A policy book will be ready for Jake in July.
Old Business: Jake was approved as a board member by the city council..
The motion to adjourn was made by Mary and seconded by Julie. The next LAB
meeting will be on Monday, June 7,1999 at 7:00 p.m.
