SCHERTZ PUbLIC LIBRARY
The October 5, 1981, Schertz Public library Advisory Board meeting
was called to order by chairt1an I\Iargaret Riley.
The minutes for the September 14, 1981, meeting were approved with the
following changes: The Library received $26.00 from Earl Sawyer rather
than the City; Mr. Ford should be identified as the City Engineer; and
the last paragraph should read. . . give us $6,000 of the $9,450 we
requested of Revenue Sharing.
The treasurer's report was presented and approved. Copy attached.
LILRARIAN'S REPORT--There were Lt4 resident, 16 non-resident, and 1 user
fee cards issued in September. Fines~colLected totaled $44.91. Story
hour was attended .by 45 children. Total circulation for September was
2,022. The total cataloged books on the shelves is 11,841 which includes
8,046 adult books; 1,290 young adult books; and 2,505 juvenile books.
57 film strip ,cassettes are available~ A stand for the film strip
cassette viewer was built by Morgan w1rd.
A weeping workshop will be heLd in the Schertz Library on October 12.
Librarians from Seguin, New Braunfels, and Leon Valley are invited to
attend. Weeding has already started in the young adult and juvenile
' fiction books and plans are to complete the weeding by the spring book
sale.
The annual report on the library is due to Mr. Gilmore by October 16.
There is a need for more volunteers in the Library in the evening shifts.
BUDGET AND FINANCE--Richard Bledsoe reported that he had called Mr.
Robert Washington of the Ewing Halsell Foundation. Mr. Washington asked
him to write a letter to Mr. Denman explaining the change in building
plans for the library. Mr. Washington was hopeful that the grant
committee would reconsider the library proposal and it would not be
necessary to go through the grant application process again.
BUILDING AND PROPERTY--Henry Delony announced that the sign had been
erected on the library lot. Exit lights for the present building have
been ordered and Jerry Graham will check on the outside lights. Mr.
Delony also stated that he had an appointment to meet with Mr. Ford,
City Engineer, on Tuesday, October 6.
Several ways to sub-contract the library slab were discussed as well
as whether or not we would have to ask for bids.
NEW BUSINESS--Margaret Riley appointed the following members to the
nominating committee I Evelyn Rogers, Richard Bledsoe, and Dona Grainger.
This committee will nominate six members, to serve for two-year terms,
at the December meeting.
