LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES
The Library Advisory Board met in regular session on Monday, April 7,
1986 at 7:30 p.m.. In the absence of the chairman, Vice-Chairman Ruth
Tienor conducted the meeting.

Tony moved to approve the minutes of the March meeting. Margaret
seconded.
TREASURER~S REPORT
Julie presented the Treasurer~s report. The money returned from the
city has been deposited in the CD.
Margaret moved to accept the Treasurer~s report as presented. Tony
seconded.

The Collection stands at: Adult, 8387; Young Adult, 1307; and
Juvenile, 3145.
Gail received a letter from Senator Bentsen congratulating Gail and
the library for being awarded the Library of America.
Reciprocal borrowing has begun with the Universal City Library.
Mr. Frank Wallace is donating a display case.

Gail at~end~the Texas Library Association conference in Ft.
Worth.
A "want list" has been compiled by Gail. Improvement of the work
area has been started. A typewriter desk and hutch have been
installed. Other items on the list include a VCR, TV, cabinet for
the TV, other work area improvements, picture book shelves, reading
area for the young adult section, ceiling fans, and a cushion for
the bench.

Movies furnished by the Movie House in Schertz will be shown on
Saturdays. The Movie House is also providing a VCR.
A consultant from the Texas State Library attended the last
consortium meeting. He felt that the application for the grant had
a good chance of being accepted. Notification will be
approximately July 15. The five libraries involved are San Marcos,
Seguin-Guadulape Co., Texas Lutheran College, New Braunfels, and
Schertz.
Gail contacted Tom Fitzgerald of Negley Paint as a public relations
gesture.
An Encyclopedia Britanica set has been purchased.
April 6-12 is National Library Week. Gail has submitted an
editorial and information on the Schertz Library to the HERALD
NEWS.
The new typewriter is ready for use.
Upgrading of the children~s area is planned. Fifty cassettes and
books have been ordered. Hard-covered books and filmstrips will
also be added.
"Celebrate Texas" is the theme of the reading club which will be
held during June and July.
The adult fiction inventory is nearly complete.
In February the first letters on overdue books were sent out. The
letters are bringing good results.
The library is in need of volunteers.
BUILDING COMMITTEE
Earl and Fred have not had a chance to check on bricks.
PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE
The Book Sale publicity is out -- posters, TV, radio, and newspaper
releases. Connie priced a street banner. (approximate cost, $300)
OLD BUSINESS
The sprinklers and automatic cycler are working.
The grass needs to be fertilized.
Plans for the 4th of July float have begun.

NEW & MISC. BUSINESS
Tony moved that improvements in the workroom be funded by County Revenue
Funds. Gene seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Work schedules and set-up and clean-up schedules for the Book Sale were
discussed.
Earl moved to adjourn. Tony seconded.
