'. , LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES The Library Advisory Board met in regular session on Honday, May 6, 19d5 at 7:30 p.m. Members present: Tony Paulson - Chairman Ruth Tienor - Vice-Chairman Julie Parr - Treasurer Mary McAllister - Secretary Gene Weaver Fred Ross Margaret Riley Ex-Officio - Gail Douglas, Librarian Adolph Aguilar, City Council Representative Fred moved the minutes of the April 1st meeting be approved. Gene seconded. TREASURER'S REPORT ~see attached report) Julie presented the Treasurer's report. The second portion of the County Revenue Sharing monies has been received. This amount, $17tl7.50, will be turned over to the city. Fred moved to accept the Treasurer's report. Gene seconded. Discussion concerning User's Fees followed. "At the present, User's Fees go into the CD for the building. Fred moved that the User Fees portion of the CD be used to purchase materials, supplies, and books. Margaret second ed. Motion carried. LIBRARIAN'S REPOliT Stats: Resident cards issued - 91 Non-resident cards - 44 User's Fees 4 Copier Fees - $79.95 Fines, Etc. - 132.25 Circulation - 3,156 Reponted by Gail: The Collection stands at: Adult Volumes - 7596; Young Adult - 121~; and Juvenile - 2'('j 3. Gail reported that she at.tended Commissioners Court to show support of the Seguin/Guadalupe Library. Gail and Margaret attended the Texas Library Ass'n. State Convention in Dallas. Each attended various seminars. Gail reported that the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation is granting $500 to 1,000 small libraries who match these funds to purchase a set of the Library of America. After oonsiderable discussion, Ruth moved that Gail apply for the Mellon Foundation Grant to obtain the Library of America set. If the grant is spproved, $250 for 2 years will be allocated for this purchase. Mary seconded. Motion carried. \.~ .. '" Greg Hill of the Seguin Library is considering a children's summer reading program in Marion. After discussion, the Board agreed that books should be loaned for use in this summer program. A bench has been purchased for the reading area. Gail will use designated "furniture money" in the CD to purchase benches for outside the library and a basin and reservoir for the fountain. BUILDING San Antonio Hydro-Mulch replaced the sprinkler heads and fixed the sprinklers The bill totaled $126. Gail will talk to Mr. Gilmore about this bill. Fred will contact a plumber to fix the hot water. FRIENDS Gail presented a library orientation at the FOSL meeting. She also reported that the Frtends discussed a campaign to brick the building. A meeting of the Library Board officers and FOSL officers will be held in the near furture. UNFINISHED BUSINESS A Bingo Night for the library will be sponsored by the Jay-Cees on 5-7-ti5.
