PLANNING AND ZONING MINUTES The Planning and Zoning Commission of the City of Schertz convened in Regular Session on Tuesday, August 25, 1981 at 7:00 P.M., in the Conference Room, 1400 Live Oak Road. The following members and visitors were present: MEMBERS PRESENT: CITY STAFF: Merwin Willman, Vice-Chairman Kenneth Greenwald, Secretary Ray Stanhope Lee Boswell Tommy M. Brooks, Assistant to City Manager OTHERS PRESENT: Clair Gilbert, Herald-News Reporter William G. Courtney Clayton L. McMahan James J. Davidson #1 CALL TO ORDER: e Vice-Chairman Willman called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M. #2 READING OF MINUTES: Regular Session of Planning and Zonin9 Commission, August 11,1981. Ray Stanhope made a motion to accept the minutes as written. Lee Boswell seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous in favor. #3 CONSIDER APPLICANTS TO BE MEt~BERS OF THE PLANtHNG AND ZONING COMtHSSION. e Mr. Wi 11 i am G. Courtney, Mr. Cl ayton L. McMahan, and ~1r. James J. Davidson had submitted applications to be considered for membership on the Planning and Zoning Commission. Each applicant was considered qualified to serve on the Commission, However, it was discussed that Mr. Davidson lives only one block from one of the present P & Z members and his selection would possibly cause over-representation in a particular area of the City. Mr. Davidson stated that he agreed that represen- tation should be as equal as possible throughout the city and he had not realized there was already representation in his area. Mr. Davidson further stated that he was interested in assisting the City in any way possible. Ray Stanhope made a motion to recommend to the City Council the appointment of r.1r. Cl ayton Mc~1ahan and Mr. Wi 11 i am Courtney as Pl ann; ng and Zoning Commission members. Mr. Greenwald seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous in favor. ,. ,,~ . #4 STAFF BRIEFING Mr. Brooks handed out the final copy of the Industrial Development Plan. He also showed the Commission a map of the City with an overview of the Air Installation Compatable Use Zone. He advised that sewer line ex- tension negotiations are still in progress, but pro- gressi ng well. #5 GENERAL DISCUSSION: Mr. Stanhope questioned the State1s responsibility for grass cutting along FM 78 as overgrowth of grass is beginning to create a hazard for traffic entering onto FM 78. Mr. Brooks advised he would pass the question on to the Public Works Department for their necessary action, if appropriate. #6 ADJOURNMENT Vice-Chairman Willman adjourned the meeting at 7:35 P.M. e .~ e
