AN ORDINA.l\lCE OF THE CITY OF SCHERTZ, TEXAS, CREATING THE OFFICE OF FIRE CHEF
OF THE SCHERTZ VOLUNTSER FIRE DEPARTHENT, SCHERTZ, TEXAS, AND PRESCRIBING THE
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF SUCH OFFICER AND PROVIDING FOR THE ASSIGN!1ENT
OF DUTIES OF SAME OFFICER IN THE SCHERTZ VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT, SCHERTZ,
TEXAS.
BE IT ORDAINED BY TIlE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SCHERTZ, TEXAS:
Section 1.
The office of Chief of the Volunteer Fire Department of the City of Schertz,
Texas, is hereby created. Such officer shall be selected by the mayor with the
consent of the City Council upon the recommendation of the Board of Directors of
the Schertz Volunteer Fire Department.
Section 2.
There shall be selected four assistants to the fire chief who, with the fire
chief, and under his direction, shall be responsible for the training and mobili-
zation of the Volunteer Fire Department, for the purpose of combating fires and
performing all other duties which shall be assigned to the Volunteer Fire Depart-
ment of tbe City of Schertz, Texas.
Section 3.
The fire chief shall be directly responsible to the mayor and the Cit;l' Council
of the City of Schertz, Texas, and the assistant fire chiefs shall be responsible
to the fire chief only.
Section 4.
The fire chief shall have full authority to assign to the assistant fire
chiefs such duties as he may deem appropriate or necessary.
Section').
The fire chief and assistant fire chiefs shall be duly responsible and shall
have full control over the use, care and maintenance of the fire-fighting equip-
ment of the City of Schertz, Texas. The fire chief and the fire chief's assistants
shall be responsible for, and have full authority, incident to conduction of fire
drills and maintaining a training schedule for the members of the Volunteer Fire
Department of the City of Schertz, Texas. Drills for the members of the Volunteer

Fire Department of the City of Schertz, Texas, shall be conducted each and every
month in accordan ce with the requirements of the Texas State Board of Insurance.
Section 6.
The fire chief shall be fully responsible for and shall have full authority
and control over all members of the Schertz Volunteer Fire Department and any other
citizens or persons present at any fire in the City of Schertz, Texas. In the
event that the fire chief is not present at any fire the assistant fire chief who
first arrives at the scene of the fire shall take charge and remain in charge until
the chief arrives.
Section 7.
The Fire Chief of the Volunteer Fire Department of the City of Schertz,
Texas, or his assistants in his absence, shall have full authority to restrict
access to the vicinity of any fire to such persons as he may see fit and such
fire chief may arrange such traffic controls as he may deem necessary.
Section 8.
This ordinance shall be effective from and after its passage.
Section 9.
All ordinamces or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.
