RESOLUTION NO. 08-R-04
A RESOLUTION BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SCHERTZ, TEXAS CREATING THE SCHERTZ 50th YEAR
ANNIVERSARY COMMITTEE AND RESOLVING OTHER MATTERS
IN CONNECTION THEREWITH
WHEREAS, the City of Schertz, Texas (the "City") was incorporated as a city by the
State of Texas in 1958;
WHEREAS, the Year 2008 marks the 501h year anniversary of the City; and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to create a committee to plan and coordinate
activities relating to the celebration of the City's 501h year anniversary.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SCHERTZ, TEXAS:
Section 1. The City hereby creates the Schertz 501h Year Anniversary Committee (the
"Committee"). The goals and objectives of the Committee will be to (i) plan and organize events
and activities to celebrate the 501h year anniversary of the City, including designating dates,
times, and places of such events; (ii) create subcommittees as needed to assist in the event
planning; and (iii) collect pictures, information, and other material regarding the City's formation
and general history.
Section 2. The Committee will act as an advisory committee to the Mayor and City
Council. The Committee will report to directly to the Mayor and, as requested, to the entire City
Council. It shall consist of five members who at the time of their appointment and thereafter
during their term (i) reside in the City, (ii) desire to contribute to accomplishment of the goals
and objectives of the Committee, and (iii) are available and agree to participate in the
Committee.
Section 3. Each City Councilmember shall select one member to serve on the
Committee. Members of the Committee shall serve until six months after the last 501h Year
Anniversary event is concluded. Members of the Committee may be removed at any time, with
or without cause, by the Mayor or Councilmember originally appointing the member (or by his
or her successor as Mayor or Councilmember). A replacement member may be appointed for
any member who resigns, is removed, or no longer qualifies.

Section 4. The City Manager shall provide the Committee minimal staff support, as
needed. The City shall provide limited public funds for the Committee (in an amount to be
determined). The City Manager (or his designee) shall (i) develop an application for qualified
persons to apply for appointment to the Committee; (ii) work with the members of the
Committee to develop a mission statement for the Committee; and (iii) develop and implement
projects and programs supportive of the goals and objectives of the Committee.
Section 5. The recitals contained in the preamble hereof are hereby found to be true,
and such recitals are hereby made a part of this Resolution for all purposes and are adopted as a
part of the judgment and findings of the City Council.
Section 6. All resolutions, or parts thereof, which are in conflict or inconsistent with
any provision of this Resolution are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict, and the
provisions of this Resolution shall be and remain controlling as to the matters ordained herein.
Section 7. This Resolution shall be construed and enforced in accordance with the
laws of the State of Texas and the United States of America.
Section 8. If any provision of this Resolution or the application thereof to any person
or circumstance shall be held to be invalid, the remainder of this Resolution and the application
of such provision to other persons and circumstances shall nevertheless be valid, and the City
Council hereby declares that this Resolution would have been enacted without such invalid
provISIon.
Section 9. It is officially found, determined, and declared that the meeting at which
this Resolution is adopted was open to the public and public notice of the time, place, and subject
matter of the public business to be considered at such meeting, including this Resolution, was
given, all as required by Chapter 551, as amended, Texas Government Code.
