A RESOLUTION BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SCHERTZ,
TEXAS AUTHORIZING THE EXPLORATION OF THE CREATION OF A
SISTER-CITY RELATIONSHIP WITH A DESIGNATED COMMUNITY IN THE
PROV ANCE OF ALSACE-LORRAINE, FRANCE.
WHEREAS, the City of Schertz, Texas (the "City") has established the Schertz 50th
Anniversary Committee to plan and organize events and activities to celebrate the 50th
year anniversary of the City (Resolution No. 06-R-30), and
WHEREAS, the Committee has proposed fostering increased awareness of the City's
cultural heritage through reenactments, cultural festivals, and adoption of a sister-city
program, and
WHEREAS, the city's origins begins with the migration of French/German settlers
(Joseph and Anne Marie Schertz) from the Alsace-Lorraine region, town of Riedisheim,
France, and
WHEREAS, the Schertz' brought the community its first commerce, culture, religion
and political structures as well as the motivation for others to follow them to the area,
and
WHEREAS, more than 700 D.S communities are partnered with nearly 1,800
communities in 134 countries around the world and those partnerships allow for cultural
exchanges between citizens, local governments, and cultural arts communities for the
betterment of all involved, and
WHEREAS, sister-city partnerships have proven beneficial in promoting economic and
community development for those cities involved, and
WHEREAS, sister-city partnerships have allowed participating communities and citizens
to creatively learn, work, and solve problems together through reciprocal cultural,
educational, municipal, business and professional exchanges and projects.
NOW ,THEEFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SCHERTZ, TEXAS:
The City authorize the Mayor to begin the process of establishing a sister-city
partnership with either the city of Riedisheim, France or any other Alacase-Lorraine
community identified as having an interest in partnering with the City.
THAT, this Resolution shall be in force and effect from and after its final passage, and it
is so resolved.
