Mary McAllister Gail Douglas Carol Cyr Visitors: Bob Brockman Recorder: Jeri Chance Ruth Tienor, Chairman, called the meeting to order. Hearing of Residents— Bob Brockman asked what
the status was on painting a mural on one of the library walls. Melissa Uhlhorn responded that the item would not fit in the budget, but that the artist did volunteer to display some
of his paintings on loan. REGULAR AGENDA: 1. Minutes-The minutes were presented by Mary McAllister. Pattie Lovelady moved to accept the minutes as presented, seconded by Carol Cyr. Motion
was passed. Treasurer’s Report-Laura Wilson presented the treasurer’s report for Dec 2008. Total book sale income for Dec was $1454.06 less $88.08 sales tax, leaving a total balance
of $12,308.01. Available income for Jan book sales was 847.74. She also reported that $119.77 taxes from ?from Nov 2008 will be corrected and a refund given in 2 payments. Mary McAllister
moved to accept treasure’s report as presented, seconded by Carol Cyr. Motion was passed. 2. Librarian’s Report: Jan 2009 usage statistics-Circulation-20,656 Patrons-16,313 Computer
use-2328 Phone Calls-850 Info/ref/comp questions-727 ILL loans-94 Volunteer hours 239.5 Restitution hours-23.25 Children’s Story time-523 Patron new cards-284 (Fiscal year-986) Patron
renewed cards-330 (Fiscal year-1295) Melissa Uhlhorn reported -• New construction is moving on schedule. They are working on taping and floating. A lot of priming is done. The large
tree has been planted in courtyard. Mill work is completed at circulation desk and ready to be stained. They are ready to start siding. • Applications are being received for the Children’s
Assistant Librarian. Deadline for applications is Feb 5, 2009.
• She and Gail are working on open house events and fundraisers. They are checking into different entertainers and performers for night events and children’s events. Gail Douglas reported-•
Writing the Next Chapter -Funds through Jan 2009 total $521,680.50. • Putting together packages for water reclamation and landscaping. • The “Adopt a Pig” program is going very well.
Many pigs have been given out. Talking to schools to have classrooms adopt a pig. • Received 501C3 status for library . This will give us a $10,000.00 grant from USAA. • Reported good
staff participation on employee deduction donations. • Donated pool table sold for $500.00. Money went into campaign fund. Thanked board ladies for their help and sent a thank you to
donor. • The money barrel was opened. Deposits were made for $800.00 in bills and silver. The pennies have yet to be counted and wrapped. 3. Bookstore Committee Report-• Sidewalk sale
is set for March 28th, 2009 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Sign-up sheets will be presented at the next next meeting. • Ruth ordered kick balls that say “Reading is a Kick”. Will also order
pencils that say “Reading makes a Point”. • New items for book store: Ruth presented note cards to be sold in library that can be printed at $40.00 per 120 with envelopes at Pronto Printing.
Pattie Lovelady made motion to have them printed, seconded by Mary McAllister. Motion carried.. • Presented an idea to make lamps with book bases. Prices to construct will be calculated
and the item will be discussed more later. • Melissa Uhlhorn and Ruth Tienor discussed current furnishings available to use in bookstore and what would need to be purchased. Three bookcarts
need to be added to library order for bookstore. ANNOUNCEMENTS-• Pattie Lovelady reported that she attended the Cibolo City council meeting and introduced herself as the liaison between
the city of Cibolo and the Schertz Public Library. ADJOURMENTMary McAllister moved to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Laura Wilson. Motion carried. Next meeting will be Mar 2, 2009.
