Meeting of August 21, 2008

III. Announcements:
A. Two photo displays (Christian Jacob Seiler Family & Walter and Meta
(Seiler) Kraemer) donated to the Committee. Walter Kraemer was the son
of Emma Boettinger who was the daughter of 1 st Founder family Joseph
Christian & Rosine Boettinger.
B. Reply received from the LCRA regarding the Committee's grant
application. Grant was denied. Committee can resubmit in September and
every quarter thereafter. Dean will coordinate with Tom DeKunder on
future submissions.
C. Notice received from Ray Mueller that he is resigning his position with the
Committee effective last week. A letter was sent to Mayor Baldwin
announcing such.
D. Still no volunteer to assume the post of Committee SecretarylRecorder.
Please consider serving and notify Dean of such.

IV. Subcommittee Reports
A. Riedel Furniture Acquisition - Nothing to report
B. Cemetery - Larry Brenner introduced a specific proposal for what his
subcommittee suggests as the "Schertz Area Cemetery Interest
Project". Larry presented the subcommittee's proposed statement of
purpose, geographic area of interest and inventory of documentation.
Motion was made and carried to adopt the project title, statement of
purpose, and documentation inventory. A copy of the project proposal,
with its statement of purpose is attached.
C. Archives - No reporting
D. Historian - Lula Mae provided copies of tourism magazines "Tezss
Events-Summer 2008" and Texas State Travel Guide 2008" neither of
which contain information regarding Schertz. It was recommended that
Schertz be included in both magazines so as to allow tourist traveling IH
35 to see what is available in Schertz, to include the vistior's center and
~ the historical museum when opened. Photos of the May dedication
ceremony at Randolph Reality and a few news articles were given to Lu1a
Mae for inclusion in the Committee Scrap Book.
E. Outreach - Thank you offered to those in attendance at the July
Committee presentation. Good feedback regarding the function.
F. Musemu -Subcommittee met and recommendations drafted (see below)
REGULAR AGENDA
v. Approval of minutes for Committee meeting on June 19,2008. Minutes were
approved as written.
VI. Historical Museum and Visitor Center - Nothing to report on physical
plant for the museum. Kramer House has been gutted and work begun on
renovation. Completion date unknown. Tom DeKunder presented a draft
proposal for the development and organization of the Schertz Community
Museum. The seven page proposal is attached for all committee members
review. A proposal was made and approved to accept the mission statement
for the museum project as set forth in the proposal document. Tom
emphasized that the mission statement focuses attention on the entire Cibolo
Valley area as well as the development of Randolph Air Force Base. Tom
indicates that the museum shou1d serve as an educational tool for both the
public and our school children.

VII. Associate Members - There are three member (voting) positions open on the
Committee and all non-voting members were encouraged to apply for those
positions.
VIII. Outreach Opportunities - Schertzfest (September 27th Heritage Day) offers
an opportunity for the Committee to man a booth at which a historical display
could be shown. Committee favors waiting until November when the wine
tasting event is held and considering participating in that event.
IX. Historic Place Designation Proposal- The next suggest building for award
of the "Historic Designation" is the former community hospital building on
Main Street that now serves as an apartment building. There is still the need to
develop a plaque and arrange for a dedication date.
