The City of Schertz Public Works Department provides Curbside Chip Service year round for Schertz
residents. The Chipping service will be completed on Friday's during normal business hours. It is the
responsibility of the resident to contact Public Works at 210.619.1800 to schedule appointments.
Appointments for the week must be made by Thursday before 3:00 PM and is a first come first serve
basis as the chipping service is limited to 20 chipping jobs per week. Calls made after this time will be
placed on the following week's schedule.
All brush and tree limbs must be placed at the curb and stacked neatly for easy access. City employees
will not go onto private property to drag brush/tree limbs to the front of the house; they will not enter
alleys to chip brush. No exceptions. Stumps will not be chipped. Stumps will be placed in the truck or
trailer, and must be small enough to be lifted by a person. This is a Residential Service Only. No
commercial Lots or Lot clearing will be accepted. If a resident hires a tree trimming contactor to trim
trees on their property, the city will not pick up or chip at this address. It is the contractor's or
homeowner's responsibility to discard the trimmings and branches. No lumber will be chipped. If
there is a question about the area where the limbs will be located, a city employee will be sent to the
location for approval before the residents name will be added to the schedule.
A fee of $25.00 per half-hour will be assessed for pickup and chipping (the charge will appear on
customer's water bill). Chipping will not be shoveled out of the truck or shot into the yard with the
chipper.
If a holiday falls on a Friday, Chipping service will be on Thursday. Crews will be available for
chipping daily if the City encounters a storm or high winds that cause downed trees and limbs.
