Mayor Carpenter called the workshop to order at 6:45 PM. Members present were: Mayor Michael Carpenter, Schertz Mayor Bill Seiler, City of Marion Mayor Larry Thompson, City of Garden Ridge Mayor John Williams, Universal City Mayor Nick Milanovich, New Berlin Mayor Jeff Hunt, Santa Clara Mayor Mary Dennis, Live Oak Others Present: Brenda Dennis, City Secretary, Schertz Kristin Mueller, City Clerk, Universal City II. Introduction Mayor Carpenter welcomed those present. III. OLD BUSINESS: 1. Update regarding Member Cities listing of all Emergency Operations Assets and primary points of contact. — Status Mayor Carpenter stated the City of Schertz team has already got some work done on this item - - -not much to update at this time. Mayor Dennis stated one of their fire department staff members is going to help in this matter and herself as being a point of contact. Mayor Carpenter stated he thinks most everyone has a person on board with this information or it may be yourself that could get this information. Mayor Carpenter stated that we will be discussing this at our March workshop. 2. Discussion and possible action regarding NEP Sponsorships toward various Randolph Airforce Base awards program. Mayor Carpenter recognized Mayor Dennis who stated that at our last meeting she introduced one of her Councilmembers, Mr. Bob Tullgren who is now assisting with the various Randolph Airforce Base awards program. 1. Discussion and possible action on the City of Winderest membership. Mayor Carpenter stated that the City of Windcrest has recently stated that they would like to once again become a member. Mayor Seiler stated that they have picked up an application but at this time he has not seen Mayor Carpenter moved, seconded by Mayor Williams that we reinstate the City of Windcrest upon receipt of their application and membership dues. Members present unanimously voted in favor. 2. Discussion and possible action on the City of Balcones Heights Membership and discussion regarding extending the boundaries of NEP. Mayor Dennis stated that she recently talked with Mayor de Leon and City Manager David Harris and they were not sure how this item was placed on this agenda, she stated that they came to our last meeting and occasionally would like to come, but at this time was not interested in joining, therefore no action is required. Mayors discussed that they do not see a need to expand their boundaries. 3. Discussion regarding the purpose and goals of the NEP organization. Mayor present discussed their current goals and stated that from time to time we should look at them. Presence of our organization on MPO is a huge and we do not want to give that up. They discussed having the ability to flex their political muscle as we did during the last legislative session. We need to begin now and start talking about strategies and concerns we have for the upcoming session. Mayors continued discussions regarding their goals that they have. Another goal the Mayors came up with is fostering good government through cooperation and collaboration. This is not written down, but it is something we do. They will continue to talk about their goals during the upcoming year. Mayor Dennis brought up some concerns raised by Mayor Suarez where he believed we were getting away from the purpose of NEP. V. Items of Interest by the Member Cities. Mayor Hunt City of Santa Clara stated that their food truck manufacturing company is doing well. Mayor Milanovich City of New Berlin stated they have a new Mexican restaurant that has opened. He also stated they have signed an Interlocal agreement with County to assist in fixing some of the pot holes. Mayor Carpenter City of Schertz mentioned the work they are doing for investment along their main street area. Mayor Williams City of Universal City stated that our member on Bicycle Mobility has not had the time to make the meetings due to his work schedule and that we need to appoint someone. Mayor Dennis with City of Live Oak stated that she knows of someone who might be willing to serve, and that is her City Manager Scott Wayman. She will ask him if he would like to be our representative. Mayor Williams also announced that they are having a new hotel on I -35 Access Road across from Ratama Park. Mayor Seiler City of Marion stated that the Trail Riders will be coming through their City on Wednesday the 7th at 2:00 p.m. at their City Hall. Mayor Dennis City of Live Oak stated that CPS has finally installed the light at Pat Booker Road. Mayor Dennis stated that today at Northeast Lakeview College she is proud to say that Texas A &M an Chevron have launched their Engineering program that. Students will be housed at Northeast Lakeview College but taught by Texas A &M, when they leave that program they will be Juniors and go on to Texas A &M with their Engineering program. If you know of students who are interested, they are enrolling now. Mayor Dennis stated that she is up for re- election and she has drawn an opponent. Mayor Thompson City of Garden Ridge announced an upcoming fundraiser for their Police Lieutenant Dan Bellinger — who is battling stage 4 colon cancer. The event will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at the Bluebonnet Palace 5 to 8 p.m. BBQ plates $10 each, he also stated that he is selling raffle tickets for some amazing items. He also stated that there will be a silent auction. Mayor Thompson also stated that the First United Bank in Schertz as well as over in Garden Ridge are hosting bake sales. Mayor Thompson stated that talking about our purpose and we need to understand that we are in a battle and the goliath is the extreme conservative leadership, the Campbells, the Bierdmans. He stated that at the last meeting he pulled Senator Campbells Aide aside and provided several comments to her VI. Establish a Date, Time, & Location of the Next Meeting. (Next up is the City of Cibolo to host — March 1, 2018. The next meeting will be in Cibolo. VII. Review and discussion regarding the Agenda for February 8, 2018, regular meeting. Add an item for appointment of a representative for the Bicycle Mobility Advisory Committee. VIII.
