05-06-2021 Workshop MinutesNortheast Partnership Olympia Hills Golf and Conference Center 12900 Mount Olympus Universal City, Tx 78148 MINUTES OF WORKSHOP May 6, 2021 I. Call to Order and Establish a Quorum. Mayor Williams called the workshop to order at 6:45 p.m. II. Introduction of those present and roll call. Member's i?resent were: Mayor Walt Williams, New Berlin Mayor Stosh Boyle, Cibolo Mayor Pro -Tem Joel Hicks, Cibolo Mayor Ralph Gutierrez, Schertz Mayor Larry Thompson, Garden Ridge Mayor Jeff Hunt, Santa Clara Mayor Victor Contreras, Marion Mayor John Williams, Universal City Guests: City Secretary Brenda Dennis, Schertz III. New Business: 1. Discussion regarding upcoming speaker presentations. Mayor Williams stated that we have a speaker for the June meeting — Mr. Scott Joslove, President and CEO of the Texas Hotel & Lodging Association. Mayors present discussed other possible speakers and will reach out to them and have them contact the Chair, Walt Williams. IV. Old Business 2. Discussion and update regarding the Air Show — Walt Williams Mayor Walt Williams indicated we are a year out and he will be getting with the Air show coordinator that we would like to have a representation of NEP at the Show and also host a VIP Tent for the Thunder Birds. He indicated that we could start working on getting sponsors. 5 -6 -2021 Minutes Mayor Williams also stated that he wanted to speak to the Air Show Representatives to hold the show near us in 2024 as well. 3. Discussion and follow -up regarding topics for The State of NEP Address Mayor Williams indicated that he wanted to recap what NEP did last year. Things like the speakers we had last year, the sponsorships /scholarships we contributed to, the small checks we provided to our local restaurants during the pandemic, things like this. Mayor Williams stated that he would like to do this once a year as recap of the things NEP did. Mayor Williams asked the mayor's to send him information, photos etc., so he can start putting this together. V. Items of interest by Member Cities. Mayor Boyle, City of Cibolo mentioned their upcoming BBQ Cookoff — 5K run which the proceeds will go towards scholarships for High School Students. He asked for NEP support. Mayor Williams indicated that this item will be placed on the next agenda for consideration. Mayor Boyle also thanked Mayor Gutierrez for his help on this and they all look forward to a great event. Mayors present thanked Mayor Larry Thompson for his service to the City of Garden Ridge and his support and service to NEP. Each wished him much success on his new adventures. Mayor Boyle, City of Cibolo indicated that as you know their City Manager resigned and they are close to making an offer to a new City Manager who is not from this area, and they are very excited. Mayor Boyle mentioned the upcoming opening of Earnie's Tavern in the Historic Downtown of Cibolo. Lastly Mayor Boyle congratulated Mayor Victor Contreras on his re- election as Mayor of Marion. He thanked all the Mayors of NEP for their support. Mayor Hunt City of Santa Clara stated that law enforcement is gearing up more. Mayor Hunt asked if any City has an emergency shelter plan for your mobile home parks, if so, he would like those to share the information with him. Mayor Hunt congratulated Mayor Contreras on his re- election. Mayor Gutierrez City of Schertz thanked all the cities that came together to assist with the shot clinics. Mayor Gutierrez thanked all the cities for their support on other joint projects, these benefit all the surrounding cities. Those present also thanked the Raquel Gutierrez for all she did as well. Mayor Gutierrez thanked Mayor Thompson for the work he did for Garden Ridge. 5 -6 -2021 Minutes Mayor Contreras thanked Mayor Thompson for the work he did in Garden Ridge, you will be missed. Mayor Contreras also thanked Mayor Gutierrez for assisting with the COVID shot clinics as well as thanked his wife for coordinating all the volunteers. He stated that they should be in the new library building by July 1 st. Mayor Contreras indicated he would not be at the next meeting as he has another meeting that day and then will be going on a small vacation. Mayor Thompson, City of Garden Ridge stated that Mayor Walt Williams has been very supportive the last two years and the things that he saw most valuable was being able to spend the time with each other to ask what each city was doing on a particular project, problem solving discussions he had with each other. NEP brought him much more than economic development. The relationship between each other, the things he was able to learn from each other was invaluable. He was here tonight to say goodbye and thank each NEP Mayor for what they do for their cities and the relationships. Mayor John Williams, City of Universal City stated that Mayor Thompson will be missed and wished him well. He also congratulated Mayor Contreras on his re- election. Mayor Walt Williams, City of New Berlin also thanked Mayor Thompson, wished him well and indicated that he learned a lot from him, from the first talk they had on the bus going to Austin until today, he has learned so much and appreciated all he has done. Mayor Walt Williams, City of New Berlin thanked Mayor John Williams, Universal City for hosting tonight and also thanked him for hosting our monthly meetings at Olympia Hills. Mayor John Williams would like for each city to share what they did during the winter freeze. He indicated that they are having to make many changes, so they are prepared for something like this again. Sharing of things each city did and experienced during that week and how they got through the winter storm would benefit all the cities. Let's talk about this at the next Mayor Workshop meeting. Mayors discussed the most recent electric bills that many received and the increases they saw. Mayor John Williams asked if the Mayor's still want to meet monthly for the NEP Mayor's workshop, is there enough business to discuss for monthly meetings. Mayor Williams indicated that the NEP bylaws should also be updated to include the Mayor's Workshop meetings. The consensus was to keep meeting. They discussed inviting others to become members of NEP. VI. Establish a Date, Time & Location of the next NEP Workshop Meeting. (Next up is the City of Windcrest) to host for June 3, 2021. 5 -6 -2021 Minutes Mayor Walt Williams stated the next City to host the Mayor's Workshop would be the City of Windcrest, for June 3, 2021. Mayor Walt Williams indicated that he would reach out to the Mayor. VII. Establish a date, time for the next regular meeting of NEP May 13, 2021. Review Draft agenda for this meeting. Next meeting will be scheduled for May 13, 2021. Windcrest to provide door prizes. Mayor's reviewed agenda and approved. VIII. Adjournment.
